Coaching is a powerful alliance and collaboration
between two equals formed for the purpose of meeting the
client's needs. This partnership is individualized,
custom designed, and implemented with
powerful tools. |
 |
The unwavering
purpose of the coaching relationship is identifying and
achieving the client's goals and dreams - working to
allow the client to live a fulfilled and balanced
life. |
 |
The
ongoing
coaching partnership activates personal, inner growth
processes which manifest in a
higher quality life. |
 |
Coaching evolved from consulting, counseling, and
psychotherapy. It is for healthy people
interested in making progress in their lives and looking
for help to do so. Coaching revives
and gives structure to the unbridled optimism about
possibility and human nature embraced by the work of
Abraham Maslow and Carl Rogers - pioneers of the human
potential and self-actualization movements. |

If
we value independence, if we are disturbed by the
growing conformity of knowledge, of values, of
attitudes, which our present system induces, then we
may wish to set up conditions of learning which make
for uniqueness, for self-direction, and for
self-initiated learning.

The coaching relationship is a relaxed, collegial,
mutually respecting, and trusting
relationship. But the focus is not mutual - the focus
of the relationship is on you, the client. This
distinguishes coaching from friendship. In a
friendship, both people expect to have their needs and
wants addressed. In a coaching relationship,
only the client's needs and wants receive attention.
|
 |
The relationship is a cooperatively crafted collaboration,
customized for you.
While the coach may have experience and knowledge, the
coach's is not and expert on your life. You and your coach create a
vision for your future, derived from your values,
resources, choices, and perspectives, and actualized
into a clear plan. As you move into action, your coach supports you, challenges you, and aids
you in maintaining focus on your vision. As your plan
comes to fruition, your coach stands back to justly
allow you to take the credit. You may then reformulate
the goals of your relationship, put the relationship on
hold, or terminate. |

People who want more of some things (money, time,
connection, passion, fulfillment, fun, love, creativity)
and less of others (procrastination, frustration,
delays, worry, stress, boredom. |
 |
People who are willing to trust and invest in their
lives. |
How can you know if coaching is right for you? People who
benefit the most from coaching often have one or more of the
following characteristics.
 |
A desire for deeper meaning and purpose in life. |
 |
A major personal or professional
transition. |
 |
Feeling in a rut and seeking a new direction. |
 |
Motivated but unable to realize your full
potential. |
 |
Feeling that a coach’s insight and support would be a
benefit. |
If these
things describe you, coaching may be just what you’re
looking for.

is either a daring adventure or nothing -- Helen Keller
