Sequoia Etcheverry, M.A.
Founder of Insight Coaching

Picture
Sequoia is a psychologist of the soul and a seasoned facilitator of human relationships, tracking both the personal and interpersonal experience. She is passionate about exploring how to use the methods of depth psychology as a doorway to communicate with our unconscious psyche.

She is a trained as a nature therapist, specializing in creating rituals aligned with the principles of sacred feminine and indigenous models of deep connection to self, community, place and ancestors.

Sequoia is also a deep nature connection mentor and has been a student of the natural and mystical world her whole life. She is passionate about the process of exploring and discovering in wild places, both within and without.

For many years, Sequoia followed her heart into the work of teaching ecology, sustainability, wilderness awareness and primitive skills to people of all ages. This work came naturally to Sequoia because of her deep-seated values of belonging to place and connecting with community.  This is what makes her come alive!

She thrives on sharing the practices of paying attention to patterns, of becoming familiar with the other beings we interact with in our watersheds, and of learning how to be curious about the unknown and unknowable mysteries of life. Sequoia truly enjoys helping guide others to become more attuned to their own internal wisdom and the interpersonal ecology of group interactions. Being humbled by the natural world, giving back to the earth that creates us, and rediscovering the ways humans have related with place for tens of thousands of years are some of the most important things to Sequoia.

She loves remembering again and again that she herself is a reflection of these cycles and rhythms that influence the ecology of our natural world.

“Ten times a day something happens to me like this – some strengthening throb of amazement –
some good sweet empathic ping and swell. This is the first, the wildest and the wisest thing I know:
that the soul exists and is built entirely out of attentiveness."
~ Mary Oliver

In 2012, Sequoia went in search of her soul's calling and enrolled in a guided vision quest. During her four-day, four-night solo in the New Mexico desert, she experienced transformational guidance from the land to take a leap!  When Sequoia returned home, she immediately enrolled in grad school at Sonoma State in the Depth Psychology program. She knew that time in the desert marked an important threshold. Now was the time to make a change. Transitioning away from the world of being a full-time naturalist and environmental educator felt less like leaving something behind, and rather deepening into the same passion, only now the focus was the internal landscape. She knew the master's program would help her pursue the calling to step forward into the realm of being a facilitator of the complex ecology of soul work.

Sequoia graduated Spring of 2014 with an M.A. in Depth Psychology from Sonoma State University. Her research focused on cultural and ecological self-inquiry as a way to investigate the personal and collective unconscious. She used the methods of poetry, myth and ritual to explore the healing power of remembering our innate connection to ancestral wisdom and the ecology of place.

In Spring of 2015, Sequoia completed her training with the Sacred Future: School for the Transformation of Consciousness and Culture, receiving two very meaningful certificates: the first in Sacred Leadership and the other in Nature Therapy and Rites of Passage Facilitation. She is actively involved with her mentor, Maria Owl Gutierrez, the Founder and Director of Sacred Future, and Sequoia works for the School as a Core Mentor in the program.
